Okay y’all these cookies are a Big Deal. We might have found the best cookies out there. It is the perfect combination for anyone who likes a mix of chewy, cakey, and chocolatey with a gooey center.
Tips and Ingredients
So why chill the dough before baking? Chilling the dough lets the flavors develop and become deeper the longer it sits. Plus, when you let it chill it stops the cookies from completely melting and flattening out.
Butter: Brown the butter over medium heat in a small saucepan, stirring constantly until the butter begins to foam and turns a golden brown, emitting a nutty aroma. This usually takes around 5-8 minutes. Make sure you only brown the butter lightly. When butter browns the liquid evaporates off which can dry out your dough. As soon as the butter starts to turn brown and smell nutty, take it off the heat to prevent any more liquid from escaping. Take butter off the heat and let it cool.
Sugar: Using both granulated sugar and brown sugar helps ensure a nice chewy, robust flavor in your cookies.
Eggs: An egg plus an extra yolk make sure you’ll have a chewy cookie.
Chocolate: Be sure to use high quality chocolate for this recipe. When you have recipes that are simpler it’s important to use high quality ingredients since all of the ingredients will stand out. We used Ghirardelli.
Vanilla: Pure vanilla extract is best for these delicious cookies. I like to use my homemade vanilla or mexican vanilla extract, it has an almost caramel, smooth flavor.
Bourbon: It’s completely optional but I love to add a couple dashes of bourbon to my cookies to add to the depth of flavor, especially after they chill! I used Bulleit Bourbon for mine.
Add-ins: One of the best parts about these cookies is that you can add things in if you don’t want just chocolate! M&Ms, walnuts, pecans, milk or dark chocolate are all delicious things to sub!
Storage
The Best part of chocolate chip cookies is that you can literally have them anytime! Save the dough in a freezer bag or airtight container for up to 3 months in the freezer; same with baked cookies! Saving your baked cookies in the freezer is the perfect solution if you want to make a huge batch and pull them out whenever you’re on the go! You can also save baked cookies in an airtight container or bag at room temp for up to a week.
Browned Butter and Bourbon = the perfection in a cookie! The browned butter adds a rich nuttiness with a little kick from the bourbon. Combine those into a delicious chocolate chip cookie and you have a match made in heaven!
